ASTRACALC 300 & 300XL

The AstraCalc 300 and 300XL are producted from a naturally occurring, white and very pure biomicritic limestone with a calcium carbonate content in excess of 99%. Deposited during the Miocene epoch in an epicontinental environment closely associated with coral reefs, this rock is made up of mostly fossil debris in a matrix of microcrystalline calcareous mud. Compared to similar products made from dense limestone or marble, our products are softer and less abrasive. Grinding tends to break down the amorphous to microcrystalline calcium carbonate into rounded particles, as opposed to angular shape of those made from other sources of calcium carbonate.

AstraCalc 300 and 300XL are both targeted as functional fillers, especially in thermosets and thermoplastics applications. Particle shape, reduced surface area and chemical purity that characterize both products offer the following advantages:

  • higher mineral loading
  • lower paste viscosities
  • lower adbrasion
  • reduced moisture pickup
  • less product shrinkage and cracking
  • lower toxic levels

Other applications include rubber, paint, adhesives, polishing agent, etc. AstraCalc 300XL is produced by using selective mining methods and detailed quality control to generate a product with a higher calcium carbonate content, as well, as a significantly lower acid insoluble and silicon content than AstraCal 300.

Both products are available with stearic acid surface coating treatment to aid in its dispersion and increase its hydrophobic characteristics. Products can be shipped in 50 pound multi-wall paper bags (60/pallet), super sacks, or bulk, with a minimum order of 20 tons.

ASTRACALC 600 - I

AstraCalc 600-I is produced from a naturally occurring, white and very pure biomicritic limestone, made up of mostly fossil debris in a matrix of  microcrystalline calcareous mud. Compared to a similar product made from dense limestone or marble, our product is softer and  significantly less abrasive.  The amorphous to microcrystalline calcium carbonate tends to breakdown into subrounded to subangular particles, as opposed to sharply angular of those made from other sources of calcium carbonate.

AstraCalc 600-I is targeted as a functional filler in plastics, especially suited in thermosets and thermoplastics applications, as well as in rubber, paint, adhesives, etc. This product typically offers lower abrasion, allows for higher mineral loads, as well as reduced resin demand, lower paste viscosity, composite shrinkage, lower moisture pickup and toxic levels.
